The Board and Staff of Victoria Police Legacy (VPL) are deeply saddened with the passing of Chief Superintendent (ret’d) Peter Ryan APM OAM who served as our inaugural Secretary when VPL was established in 1980 and as President from 1985 & 1992. Sadly, Peter passed away on Thursday 12th August in the Royal Melbourne Hospital after a period of illness. Peter joined Victoria Police in 1956, retiring in 1992. Our deepest condolences are extended to his beloved wife Jenny, children Andrew, Chris, Theresa, Bernard, Moira and Matthew, stepchildren Julieanne, Katrina & Darren (dec), grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family. In February 1980, Peter, along with Bryan Kelly (dec), was integral in VPL being established, and providing the ‘on ground day to day support’ to many police families in the early years of the organisation. Peter was also a founding member of The Police Credit Co-Op, now known as BankVic.Peter was the recipient of the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) and the Australian Police Medal (APM).Peter, along with Bryan Kelly, was awarded the first Life Membership of Victoria Police Legacy for his services to the organisation and to Police Legatees.
