Ian ‘Salty’ Gilmore
was Victoria Police Legacy’s longest serving volunteer. His involvement began
in 1989 until his passing in January this year. Salty assisted in transporting
police legatees from the East Gippsland area to various events and luncheons. He
was also responsible for coordinating transport
arrangements for police legatees who needed assistance. He made regular visits
to offer support or just a friendly face. Salty became a police legatee himself
in 1999, when his wife Marilyn sadly passed away following a battle with
cancer. He retired from Victoria Police at the rank of Sergeant in 2004 but
never lost his passion for helping those within the police family who had lost
love ones.
