Former Chief Commissioner Sinclair Imrie Miller, popularly known as ‘Mick’ Miller, will always be remembered as the driving force behind the successful formation of Victoria Police Legacy. His significant support was unwavering, even after he retired and well into old age. Born in 1926, Mick served in World War II before joining the police in 1947. He quickly rose through the ranks and was appointed Chief Commissioner in 1977 – holding the top job for 10 years. He helped modernise the police force and established the Special Operations Group and the Police Airwing, as well as revolutionising detective training. In November 1980 he arranged for every police officer to have 20 cents deducted from their wages to support police legatees. He passed away in 2019, aged 92.
